The Hague, 8th March 2022

Gender Concerns International together with the Hague Humanity Hub and WIDE+ is organizing an event on this International Women’s Day 2022: War Heroines of Ukraine that addresses the issue of urgency in the allocation of humanitarian assistance to the women in Ukraine and across the border.

In solidarity, the event will be dedicated to the bravery of women of Ukraine. Drawing attention to the heroic role of women playing in the face of the horror of this war.

Today on this International Day of Women, in desolation and displacement millions of Ukrainian women fear for their own life and the life of their loved ones. The situation is worsening as food supplies are disrupted and infrastructure is destroyed. We call upon “a rapid response to women and children of Ukraine”. Humanitarian assistance must reach and fast to the victims of war.

Women and other civil society organizations have joined hands in offering support to the people in Ukraine.

Through Giro 555action Dutch public has donated over 100 million Euros to support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. While generosity in fund-raising is proven, the wisdom in collected funds distribution must prevail. Equality and inclusion in allocating resources to local communities through their representative organizations is vital.

We request Giro555 organizations to set an example in committing and transferring at least 25% of collected donations and humanitarian funding to the local and national organizations especially those of women, as directly as possible to improve the benefits for affected people and to reduce the transactional costs.

This recommendation is based on The Grand Bargain, which is an international shared commitment between some of the largest doners and humanitarian organizations to better serve people in need, also signed by the Netherlands.

All Ukrainian women are Heroines and need to be supported. Join us in solidarity and support Women of Ukraine who are playing a heroic role in the face of the horror of this war.

End.
