Gender Concerns International reaffirms its commitment to the Declaration of Principles (DoP) at the 20th Anniversary Meeting

Geneva, Switzerland

Gender Concerns International convened with 38 other leading international organizations in Geneva to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the DoP. The 2025 annual implementation meeting was hosted by the United Nations Electoral Assistance Division (UNEAD) in Geneva, Switzerland from December 10 to 12, 2025.

The meeting brought together endorsing organisations, intergovernmental actors and international civil society organisations to engage in a series of high-level exchanges reflecting on lessons learned and challenges faced over two decades of collective election observation experiences.

Reflecting on the remarkable democracy work of DoP community Sabra Bano, directorand IGCcommended the democratic contribution of endorsing organisationsespecially for adopting the gender-inclusive approaches in their election observation and electoral support programs. She offered organisation`s cooperation in the scope of sharing GEOM methodology and practice.

Gender Concerns International has been engaged in election observation for nearly two decades

GEOM (Gender Election Observation Mission) is a tool where equal partnership between international and local women election observers is formed to set-up all-women-led, women-managed and women-reported missions. GEOM observes elections and democratic processes from a gender perspective and reports on its findings and formulated recommendations.

As an endorsing DoP community member, with its gender-democracy tool GEOM, Gender Concerns International continues to impact reforming electoral gender equality and addressing the issue of Electoral Gender Based Violence.

By endorsing the Joint Statement issued following the DoP 20th Anniversary Implementation Meeting, Gender Concerns International reaffirms its commitment to the Principles of International Election Observations and the execution of International Election observation in accordance with the Declaration of Principles and reiterates its firm dedication to support gender-equal election practices and to contributing to international efforts aimed at strengthening the credibility and inclusiveness of electoral processes.
