UN Geneva: The Commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of the Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation in Geneva

Gender Concerns International, represented by Director Bano, joined 38 world-leading international organizations working on democracy and elections who gathered at the UN in Geneva to mark the 20th Anniversary of the Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation (DoP) from 10th to 12th December 2025.

Reflecting on the DoP community’s longstanding commitment to advocating for legitimate and inclusive elections, Sabra Bano highly praised the work of fellow DoP endorsing organizations, especially over the last ten years, for integrating a gendered lens into their election observation methodologies.

For nearly two decades, Gender Concerns International has advanced gender-sensitive election observation frameworks through its Gender Elections Observation Mission (GEOM). This innovative mechanism globally inspired the establishment of equal partnerships between international and local women election observers. GEOM missions are women-led, women-managed, and women-reported, offering a distinctly gendered perspective on electoral integrity and equitable governance.

Gender Concerns will remain dedicated to strengthening the credibility, transparency, and inclusiveness of the electoral processes worldwide.
