Dieny Scheffer appeals to Dutch Women to Support Flowers for Peace Campaign in light of Mother’s Day

Flowers for Peace presented to Afghan Women

Ms. Dieny Scheffer, President of the Dutch Women’s Council (NVR), appeals to Dutch women to think of Afghan mothers as well. “Think, in the light of Mother’s Day, also about mothers in Afghanistan and in other Conflict Zones as well and support – just like the Dutch Women’s Council – the Flowers for Peace Campaign of Gender Concerns International”, writes Dieny Scheffer on the website of NVR.

She invites all readers to add their names to the growing list on the www.flowersforpeace.eu website and also to support the campaign financially by donating* to GIRO NUMBER 15 83 698, The Hague. “Flowers are a wonderful symbol of peace and buying flowers for Mother’s Day is a good opportunity to think about Afghan mothers and mothers in other Conflict Zones”, Dieny Scheffer adds.

At the successful Flowers for Peace Campaign Launch Ceremony that took place at the Peace Palace on 26^th April Dieny Scheffer received the Flowers for Peace together with other dignitaries of the national and international community to draw attention to the voices of women in Conflict Zones and especially in Afghanistan.

The first 100 digital Flowers for Peace were presented to Afghan Women, represented by Afghan Women’s Network Chairperson Afifa Azim, during the Flowers for Peace Campaign Launch. The digital Flowers for Peace were symbolically handed over in the form of a fresh bouquet by Gender Concerns’ Director Ms. Sabra Bano emphasizing the contribution made by Afghan women to the sustainability of the peace and security process of their own country.

Denk met Moederdag ook aan moeders in Afghanistan en andere conflictgebieden

De Nederlandse Vrouwen Raad (NVR) ondersteunt van harte de campagne Flowers for Peace die NVR-lidorganisatie Gender Concerns eind april heeft gelanceerd. De campagne is bedoeld om vrouwen in conflictgebieden te steunen in hun recht op betrokkenheid bij vredesonderhandelingen en wederopbouw.

Eerste invulling van de campagne is steun voor Afghaanse vrouwen en hun betrokkenheid bij de komende vredesbesprekingen in Afghanistan (Peace Jirga). Rozen staan symbool voor deze steun – bloemen voor vrede. Op de campagnewebsite kunt u uw steun betuigen. Iedere stem van steun is een (virtuele) roos voor de Afghaanse vrouwen.

Als voorzitter van de Nederlandse Vrouwen Raad was ik een van degenen die een bos rozen in ontvangst mocht nemen bij de start van de campagne, die 26 april jongstleden plaats vond tegen de achtergrond van het Vredespaleis in Den Haag.

Bloemen zijn een prachtig symbool voor wereldvrede. En, vrouwen, zeker die in Afghanistan, hebben vrede nodig.

Ik roep u op de campagne Flowers for Peace te steunen en uw naam toe te voegen aan de snel groeiende lijst van ondersteuners op de website www.flowersforpeace.eu.

Komend weekend worden er weer vele Moedagboeketten gekocht en ontvangen. Het zou mooi zijn als we bij gelegenheid van Moederdag ook denken aan de moeders in Afghanistan en andere conflictgebieden. Ik kan me ook voorstellen dat u de strijd voor de vrouwenrechten in conflictgebieden waar Gender Concerns International zich voor inzet, financieel wilt steunen. Ook dat kunt u doen via dezelfde website.
