Commemorating Courage and Resilience in Lebanon

Today marks one year since the devastating explosion in Beirut shocked the world. The country is still grappling with severe political and economic crises, which are further intensified in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Lebanon is faced with mounting challenges caused by the COVID-19 situation, its widespread poverty, rising unemployment, and vulnerablity of the public water system.

One year after the explosion, the devastating effects continue to prevail.

In commemoration of the resilience and courage of the people in Lebanon and especially women and the youth, we express our full support to the admirable work of the civil society organisations on the ground and other actors during these difficult times and in solidarity, we hope for the swift return to democracy and the establishment of the new government. The International Community needs to pay special attention to support people in Lebanon until this crisis is over.
