EU Grants Pakistan a Favourable Review for GSP+

EU grants Pakistan a favourable review for GSP+ status

This week, the European Parliament gave a favourable review for Pakistan’s GSP+ status. Pakistan faced opposition during the review due to concerns on the genuine progression and implementation of the 27 human rights Conventions attached to the GSP+ trade concessions.[1] Particularly, The European Union and others were concerned over the issues of enforced disappearances and the rights of minorities in Pakistan.

[2] However, the EU commended Pakistan’s progression on human rights legislation and, overall, the attached conventions to the GSP+ Scheme.

The continued GSP+ status for Pakistan will promote and support the country’s progression on the reduction of poverty, promotion of sustainable development and good governance.[3]
