Celebrating 20 Years of Empowering Women: A Reflection on Two Decades of Work of Gender Concerns International

Two Decades of Advancing Work on Women’s Empowerment

With a core objective of ‘Recognition, Respect and Resources’ for women and the work of their organisations” this January, Gender Concerns International marks two decades of advancing women's empowerment. Since 2004, its mission focuses on supporting gender and development by promoting policy-level gender equality, collaborating with national authorities, and bridging gaps between women, organisations, and policymakers. The organisation helps build the capacity of women decision-makers, facilitating negotiations for budget resources during parliamentary allocations, a pivotal step towards gender equality.

As a four-time signatory to the Dutch National Action Plan on UNSCR 1325, the organisation champions women’s inclusion in governance work from Afghanistan and Myanmar to Morocco, Libya, and Tunisia. It promotes global female leadership in democratic parity and environmental decision-making. Amid global challenges, the #SheCaresCovid19 campaign addressed women's struggles during the pandemic, reinforcing the link between gender and environmental sustainability.

Committed to the Three R Instrument - providing ‘Recognition’,‘Respect’, and ‘Resources’ for women's work, Gender Concerns International commemorates its 20-year journey. More information will be communicated soon through the website and social media.
