Pakistan's Senator Sherry Rehman recognized the importance of the announcement of the Loss and Damage Fund at COP28 on X, while pointing out that the sums provided are far from sufficient. On November 30, 2023, COP28 President Dr. Sultan Al Jaber announced the establishment of the Loss and Damage Fund designed to support developing countries particularly vulnerable to the negative effects of climate change. Senator Rehman acknowledges the importance of this political action as a step in the right direction. Meanwhile, the millions provided by countries such as the United Arab Emirates and Germany to support the fund are, in her eyes, disproportionate to the actual losses, as Pakistan alone experienced losses of over $40 billion in 2022 from just a single natural event caused by the human-made climate crisis.
