Get well cards for Malala include contribution from Dutch schoolgirl and her town

Gender Concerns International supports Rebecca’s Initiative

As thousands of people are now calling for a Nobel Peace Prize for Malala Yousafzai, who was shot by the Taliban while campaigning for girls' education in Pakistan, she has been out of her hospital bed reading countless of get well cards  – including a special contribution from Dutch schoolgirl Rebecca Hagen.

Thirteen year old Rebecca  has been motivating her classmates and the residents of her home town of Wassenaar to design the cards for the 15 year old Pakistani girl who is recovering  in a UK hospital.

Gender Concerns International liaison officer,  Noor Amin assisted Rebecca in the coordination of her efforts, accompanying her to the Embassy of Pakistan where the cards were dispatched to Malala. The Ambssador, HE Fauzia Mazhar Sana very much appreciated the gesture.

The cards were delivered in time for Malala Day on Saturday, 10 November. Rebecca told Gender Concerns International she and Malala were a similar age and she wanted to collect and send the cards to Malala.

More than 60,000 people have backed the petition to nominate Malala for the Peace Prize.  Nominations close in February.
