Popular Woman Activist Killed in Libya

Gender Concerns has been working in post-conflict Libya to support women's place in a new constitution and overall security. The murder this week of civil rights activist Intisar Al-Hasairi further demonstrates that more support is needed from the international community to help Libya continue its path towards security as a developing democracy. Without such engagement the country could fall into larger conflict threatening security for all citizens and the region – and progress could be lost that has been made for women's place in society. Libyan women's organisations urgently need support now.

Gender Concerns stands with the women of Libya and expresses condolences to the family and supporters of Ms. Al-Hasairi.
