On May 18, 2025, The Hague witnessed a historic moment as more than 100,000 people gathered at Malieveld in what became the Netherlands’ largest protest in over two decades. Under the banner “Red Line for Gaza,” demonstrators from across the country stood united to demand an end to the genocide in Gaza and to condemn Dutch complicity in the ongoing atrocities.
Organized by leading human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, Save the Children, and Doctors Without Borders, the demonstration called for urgent action from the Dutch government. Dressed in red, participants formed a striking visual symbol of solidarity and a shared refusal to remain silent in the face of injustice.
The powerful 5-kilometer march wound its way past landmarks of international law such as the Peace Palace and the International Court of Justice, underscoring The Hague’s global role in the pursuit of accountability. Families, elders, and young children walked side by side, representing the broad public outcry against impunity and violence.
As an organization dedicated to women’s rights, peacebuilding, and justice, Gender Concerns International recognizes the importance of public mobilization in defending international law and human dignity. The call from the streets resonated deeply with our mission: no more silence, and no more complicity in undermining human rights!
Now, more than ever, solidarity with Palestinian women and civilians—who face disproportionate harm in this crisis—is essential. Gender Concerns International continues to join the call to uphold human rights, demand accountability, and stand firm for peace and justice everywhere.
