On May 18, 2025, more than 100,000 people gathered at Malieveld in The Hague in what became the Netherlands’ largest protest in over two decades. Under the banner “Red Line for Gaza”, demonstrators from across the country stood united to demand an end to the genocide in Gaza and to denounce Dutch complicity in the ongoing atrocities.
Organized by leading human rights groups, including Amnesty International, Save the Children, and Doctors Without Borders, the protest called on the Dutch government to take immediate and decisive action. The sea of red-clad marchers symbolized a collective refusal to remain silent in the face of injustice.
The demonstration took participants on a powerful 5-kilometer march through The Hague, passing key symbols of international law such as the Peace Palace and the International Court of Justice. The presence of families, elders, and young children highlighted the depth and breadth of public outrage.
As an organization committed to women’s rights and peacebuilding, Gender Concerns International recognizes the centrality of such mobilizations in advocating for justice, especially where international law is being eroded. The call from the streets is clear: no more silence, no more complicity. Now, more than ever, solidarity with Palestinian women and civilians, who face disproportionate harm in this crisis, is essential. We join the call to uphold human rights and demand accountability from those enabling violence.
