On the 31st of October, the United Nations marked the 25th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS).
The resolution, adopted in 2000, urges Member States to ensure increased representation of women at all decision-making levels in national, regional, and international institutions and mechanisms for the prevention, management, and resolution of conflict.
GCI is dedicated to achieving this goal by utilizing its tool, the Gender Election Observation Mission, which supports the integration of women in national decision-making processes. Through this mission, the organisation raises awareness of the need for gender parity at the legislative level in countries that currently face fragile democracies, such as Tunisia, Libya, Morocco, Pakistan, Myanmar, Afghanistan, and Ukraine.
Moreover, Gender Concerns International remains committed to supporting the development of the WPS agenda by being one of the 60+ signatories to the Dutch National Action Plan (NAP1325), which currently has five strategic outcomes: participation, prevention, protection, and relief, reconstruction, and recovery, and mainstreaming WPS.
We express our long-term commitment to keep pushing the WPS Agenda through its programmes focused on Gender and Democracy.
