Capacity Building Workshop on Gender Mainstreaming (Freetown, 16 – 18 December 2013)

During the three day workshop, Gender Concerns International was invited to provide training, as well as knowledge on gender vocabulary including: gender mainstreaming, international and national gender instruments and gender budgeting. Teaching methods used were role playing and group interaction. Furthermore, Gender Concerns provided participants with information on international best practices with regards to gender and elections. The training culminated in a review of the gender policy in the terms of reference of the chief of gender and disability. Participants also looked for ways for how the knowledge gained during the training sessions could be incorporated into a model training plan, which the participants could use throughout the commission and in their respective districts. The workshop was supported by the National Election Commission, the UNDP, Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children's Affairs, Forum for African Women Educationalists Sierra Leone and the Gender Advisor from the Office of the President, the State House.
