Notably only 2 out of the 13 presidential candidates were women representing 15,4% of the candidate pool.
The National Electoral Commission observed a sharp decline in female voters - only 32% of the total voters. This is a significant decrease with 6,7 million women voting this year out of 21 million total voters in comparison to the previous presidential elections where approximately 10 million women casted their vote.
This voter turnout decline raises serious concerns regarding the political engagement and gender representation in Poland’s electoral processes.
Karol Nawrocki won the presidency with 50,89% of the vote on 1 June. His victory is expected to influence Poland’s domestic and international policies, potentially challenging pro-EU reforms, legalization of abortion and the expansion of LGBTQ+ rights.
