A strong voice and a 16th birthday for Malala
Malala Yousafzai speaks at the UN today in celebration of her birthday and her inspirational triumph
over violence to suppress the rights of girls and women
Gender Concerns International would like to celebrate the courage of Malala in standing up in the face of violence to make a difference that is still being felt around the world. She is an inspiring source for girls and anyone else who believes in the rights of girls and women.
Malala has said that the Taliban attempt to silence her only made her stronger. “Nothing changed in my life except this -- weakness, fear and hopelessness died,” she said. Malala is addressing the United Nations in New York and is highlighting “the right of education for every child.”
Gender Concerns International values Malala’s life and her brave contribution to the spirit of girl’s and women’s human rights. We would like to join in wishing her a happy and peaceful 16th birthday. "The world is fortunate that she is still here with us today," stated Farida Qazi, Country Head Operations, Pakistan.
