                                          Press Release

The Hague, 8 June 2012

Gender Concerns International to support the 24th “Dosty Pakistan’s Ambassador Hockey Trophy 2012”

On 11 June 2012 the Pakistani Embassy is holding its 24th annual “Dosty Pakistan’s Ambassador Hockey Trophy Tournament” at Hockey Club Klein Zwitserland in The Hague. The Pakistani Embassy, in cooperation with the Dutch Parliament, Dutch Foreign Ministry, and Pakistan-Dutch community, organise an annual Dosty Pakistan’s Ambassador Hockey Trophy with the aim of fostering ties between Pakistani and Dutch Communities, whom share a common passion for hockey.

The name of the tournament—Dosty, means friendship and the tournament itself has reflects the spirit of friendship and strong bond between the Pakistani and Dutch community. Last year’s hockey match featured many Parliamentarians and senior Foreign Office officials competing in the tournament in teams from the Dutch Parliament, Dutch Foreign Office, and the Pakistan Community. Unfortunately, there can only be one winner, and the trophy for the 23rd Dosty Pakistan’s Ambassador Tournament last year, was awarded to the Parliament XI.[1]

Gender Concerns International stresses the importance of female participation in sport and has been a strong advocate for women’s participation in the Dosty Tournament. Pakistani Ambassador H.E. Mr. Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry should be commended for his motivation and ongoing efforts to significantly increase the handful of women participating in these annual hockey tournaments over the past three years.

Gender Concerns International will be present at the 24th annual Dosty Pakistan’s Ambassador Hockey Trophy to cheer on all the teams participating in the Tournament and to celebrate women’s participation in sport.
