Women in Kashmir: Silence is No Longer an Option

As the recent tension escalates between India and Pakistan, women seem to emerge as the worst victim of this longstanding conflict. Gender Concerns International is observing the situation with great concern.

This weekend (August 24 to 26) the 45th G7 Summit will take place in Biarritz, France and as this years’ theme is inequality, Gender Concerns International considers it vital to highlight the current situation in Indian administered Kashmir. We urge the international community to ensure the safety of all women on the ground caught in this conflict.

To draw the attention of international community to the ramifications of this conflict on the women in Kashmir, letters to President Macron, the host of the G7 Summit, as well as to the UN Women and the G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council have been sent out today. These letters not only highlight the grave situation of the women in Kashmir but most importantly request actions from the international community to protect women in conflict situation and prevent them against any attempt of violence and abuse!
