Tunisian Stakeholders Consultation - “Enhancing Women's Economic Participation: Addressing the Gender-Gap in North-West Region”

Last month, partner organisation Association Tunisienne des Femmes Democrates (ATFD) organised a stakeholder’s consultation on the issue of “Enhancing Women’s Economic Participation: Addressing the Gender-Gap in North-West Tunisia”. The meeting gathered key stakeholders from Beja, Jendouba, Kef, and Siliana, constituting the Project Advisory Committee. The consultation also included ATFD Experts from the Women’s Economic Empowerment Committee. The meeting was formally opened by Ms. Sabra Bano, the Director of Gender Concerns International. The Committee actively engages in addressing women`s issues of economic deprivation and exclusion in Tunisia.

Major aspects of the consultation were meeting participants, sharing knowledge on the regional situation and discussing in detail the potential challenges and opportunities in improving the situation of women and youth in the region. The meeting engaged in a progressive discussion and agreed to reach out to local actors while also considering meeting women in public places like local markets. ATFD representatives will join the launch of a campaign that raises public awareness about reinforcing the economic empowerment and financial independence of women in the region.

The activities constitute an ongoing project in North-West Tunisia, led by ATFD and other local organisations. Moreover, the project is an initiative of Gender Concerns International, supported by The Embassy of Netherlands in Tunisia and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
