The 11th Declaration of Principles

On the 18th and 19th of October, the Head of Missions, Ms. Sabra Bano, represented Gender Concerns International at the 11th Implementation Meeting of the Declaration of Principles (DoP) for International Elections Observation. The meeting took place in Johannesburg, South Africa.

At the meeting, signatories of the DoP exchanged views and evaluated the current implementation of the principles. Important thematic issues, such as support to civil society groups working in closed societies, conflict and electoral violence, and money in politics and abuse of state resources, were also discussed.

The DoP is signed and endorsed by a number of international organisations including the United Nations, the European Union and Gender Concerns International. The document provides guiding principles that Gender Concerns International abides by when conducting its Gender Election Observation Missions to ensure the highest standard in its election observations.

The event was followed by EISA's 20th Anniversary Symposium which celebrated the 20 years of service that the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa has dedicated to the development and strengthening of democratic governance in Africa.
