Shared Inclusive Approaches to Sustainable Economic Development in MENA Region: Case of Tunisia

The speakers will identify shared interactive and supportive mechanisms and tools to accelerate an inclusive and sustainable economic growth process in Tunisia. The main focus of the event is women’s engagement in the Renewable Energy Sector, so the messages will align accordingly.

11:40-11:55 Mr Rafik Aini, The Ministry of Agriculture

Mr Aini will identify key developments and issues in the Renewable Energy Sector in relation to climate change resilience policies in Tunisia. The speaker will also discuss the significance of the Renewable Energy Sector in Tunisia in its relation to agriculture and sustainable economic development.

11:55-12:10 Michelle Winthrop, Development Specialist/Climate and Resilience Policy Lead, Government of Ireland

Ms Winthrop will focus on the inclusive interactive and supportive mechanisms and tools to accelerate a sustainable economic growth process. The representatives of the Irish government will share the most successful practices in the Renewable Energy Sector that exist in Ireland and will provide key points of advice targeted specifically at related issues of Tunisia.

12:10-12:25 Tracy Kajumba, Regional Senior Climate Change and Development Advisor, Government of Ireland

Ms Kajumba will follow up on the speech of the previous speaker, concentrating on the inclusive interactive and supportive mechanisms for acceleration of sustainable economic development. The representative of the Irish government will share the most successful practices in the Renewable Energy Sector that exist in Ireland and will provide key points of advice targeted specifically at related issues of Tunisia.

12:25-12:40 Dr Khedija Arfaoui, Feminist Scholar, Women Rights Activist, and Human Rights Researcher

The expert Dr Arfaoui will identify the role of women in the Renewable Energy Sector in Tunisia. Advocating for the significance of women’s engagement in the environmental causes, Dr Arfaoui will highlight the importance of inclusive mechanisms and creation of the Multi-stakeholder Platform for national engagement for the sustainable development of Tunisia.

12:40-12:55 Discussion and Q&A session

12:55-13:00 Sabra Bano, Director, Gender Concerns International

In the concluding remarks, Ms Bano will highlight the importance of the establishment of a lasting Multi-stakeholder Platform for national engagement in raising awareness on sustainable agriculture and entrepreneurship in Tunisia, with a focus on women`s engagement in Renewable Energy arena.
