Gender Concerns International stands with the women of Balochistan, Pakistan and expresses its condolences to the family and supporters of civil rights activist Sabeen Mahmud. Gender Concerns pays tribute to Ms Mahmud´s work in Pakistan and the hard campaigning she dedicated to the high-risk areas of Karachi and Balochistan. Gender Concerns recognised the dedicated work of Ms Mahmud in organising Pakistan´s first ever hackathon and the establishment of her peace-focused and human rights non-profit known as The Second Floor (T2F).
We wish our fellow women colleagues’ strength in these difficult times. The murder of Ms Mahmud highlights the adverse and critical context within which women activists work in Pakistan. Although one voice was silenced, women activists will continue to work hard for women´s empowerment in Pakistan!
