International Peace Day

International Peace Day

Gender Concerns International wishes everyone a happy International Peace Day!

On this day, it is exciting to be in The Hague with the opening of the annual Just Peace Festival that will take place the next few days. The festival commemorates International Peace Day by celebrating peace through a diverse range of enjoyable and insightful events.

Women need to play an important role in all levels of peace-making and peace-keeping in order to ensure sustainable developing nations. The theme for this year’s International Peace Day is “The Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace” acknowledging the importance that the 17 goals play in guaranteeing peaceful nations. Gender Concerns International is devoted to promoting gender inclusive societies and democracies. The organisation is doing important work in relation to goal 16 on Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions and goal 5 on Gender Equality. Currently, Gender Concerns International is involved in the peace process in Myanmar to secure a gender-focused electoral reform.
