EU grants Pakistan a favourable review for GSP+ status
This week, the European Parliament gave a favourable review for Pakistan’s GSP+ status. Pakistan faced opposition during the review due to concerns on the genuine progression and implementation of the 27 human rights Conventions attached to the GSP+ trade concessions. Particularly, The European Union and others were concerned over the issues of enforced disappearances and the rights of minorities in Pakistan.
However, the EU commended Pakistan’s progression on human rights legislation and, overall, the attached conventions to the GSP+ Scheme.
The continued GSP+ status for Pakistan will promote and support the country’s progression on the reduction of poverty, promotion of sustainable development and good governance.
