Pre-election mission completed

A delegation from Gender Concerns successfully completed its pre-election assessment mission in Kabul, Afghanistan, last week. The delegation, led by Director Sabra Bano, met with various organisations and government officials to connect its base of support and strategy in preparation for a Gender Election Monitoring (GEM) mission there in April 2014 for the presidential elections.

Our GEM mission programme is a unique initiative in which our teams focus solely on women’s democratic participation and their influences on decision-making processes. Our GEM missions work with established women’s and civil society organisations to mobilize women, and then foster their participation before, during and after elections – as equal citizens of their own country.

Keep in touch with Gender Concerns on this website,
Facebook and Twitter for updates on our GEM focus for Afghanistan 2014.

GEM missions have been conducted in Pakistan (2013 and 2008), Libya (2012) Morocco (2011), and Tunisia (2011).
