Afghanistan: what's next?

An invitation

Afghanistan 2014 and beyond -

female leadership and confronting challenges

Gender Concerns International in partnership with Afghan Women Network (AWN) cordially invites you to a special public event in The Hague on 29 November, 2012 which highlights the challenges to female leadership in Afghanistan.

2014 marks two historic events in Afghanistan. One is the possible withdrawal of international troops and secondly, expected parliamentary elections. These two major events will have a profound impact on women in Afghanistan.

In continuation of our consistent support to the women of Afghanistan and in order to draw the attention of the international community to the struggle of Afghan women, the event is also an occasion to reaffirm our support to the bravery, courage and leadership of Afghan women to create and maintain a democratic country beyond 2014.

Among EU, NATO and Afghan government representative speakers, our guests from Afghanistan include MP Fatima Aziz from Kunduz, MP Aziza Jalis from Sare-Pul and, MP Fawzia Koofi from Badekhshan, together with women leaders Afifa Azim from AWN and Shukria Hassani, Regional Gender, Conflict and Development platform representative.

The event will focus on the gender dimension of the democratic transition process in Afghanistan, and support for Afghan women’s leadership as catalysts for change.

This event is part of the Rehbar program supported by the EU
