Egypt's National Council for Women called upon establishing a union for rural pioneers who count as an important segment of civil society which contributes to the development of local communities.
Rural pioneers are a number of village women assigned by cabinets for local development and to raise awareness in the countryside.
Pioneers from all cabinets will participate in a conference that will be held in November. They will work on the foundation of a union which tackles all their concerns, the council said.
"The Council thoroughly employed the efforts of rural pioneers in numerous fields relating to women rights", chairwoman of the council, Mervat Al Talawy, said in a meeting with rural pioneers.
"The concept of a Rural Pioneer and the criteria of selecting one need to be determined", clarified a representative of the Local Development Ministry. He added that the financial status of pioneers needs to improve.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Social Affairs had received many complaints pertaining to the conditions of Rural Pioneers.
According to the Ministry of Health, the Rural Pioneers suffer from tremulous security situation that prevents them from reaching families.
