2011 is off to a busy start for Gender Concerns International Parliamentary Hearing on Afghanistan – Police Training Mission in Kunduz Gender Concerns International - as an expert participant - contributed to the parliamentary hearing on Afghanistan police training mission on January 24th 2011. Sabra Bano, as the Director of Gender Concerns International, reinforced the need for gender organisations involvement in the peace process for Afghanistan. After a week of consultation, debates and negotiations, the Dutch government decided in favour of the mission and as a result contributes to international presence in Afghanistan by sending a total of 545 women and men to train police forces in Afghanistan.
Gender Concerns International welcomes the first ever Ambassador of Afghanistan, His Excellency Enayatullah Nabiel, to The Netherlands. Sabra Bano, Director of Gender Concerns International has already met with His Excellency and described their meeting as welcoming and informative. Gender Concerns International looks forward to working closely with the Afghanistan Embassy in the Netherlands in the future.
Meeting of the EU Delegation for the relations with Afghanistan on Wednesday 26 January
Gender Concerns International was invited to the meeting of the Delegation for the relations with Afghanistan of the European Parliament in Brussels which took place on Wednesday 26th January in Brussels. The meeting aimed to critically take into consideration the post-Wolesi Jirga elections situation in Afghanistan.
2010 continued to be a very busy year for Gender Concerns International. We participated in events all over the world and continued our hard work in the areas of Gender and democracy, Gender and disaster management, Gender and Minorities and Gender justice in conflict.
