1325 Regional Stakeholders Conference and IDPs Situation in Pakistan
Sabra Bano will be visiting Afghanistan and Pakistan to prepare the regional conference. During this visit she will also visit IDP camps in Pakistan and will meet with the women in these camps. She is invited by local organisations to observe the appalling condition of millions of IDPs and help alerting the international community for its response.
Awareness Raising Campaign in May
In light of today’s current climate of political change in Afghanistan and Pakistan, Gender Concerns International and the Dutch Labour Party (PvdA) firmly support women’s involvement in regional peace and security issues. Therefore, Gender Concerns International, in cooperation with PvdA, organised an Awareness Raising Campaign held in The Hague in May 2009. Read more
Justice Richard Goldstone awarded by MacArthur Foundation
On the 25th of May, Sabra Bano attended the MacArthur Award events in Kurhaus hotel in Scheveningen in honour of Justice Richard Goldstone. She congratulated him for his wonderful work and also had the possibility to speak with Jonathan Forton, President of the MacArthur Foundation. Read more
National Platform Young Parents launched by Chantal Gill’ard
On the 10th of May Chantal Gill’ard launched the National Platform Young Parent for teenage parents as she had announced during the 120th Assemble of the Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Ethiopia. This initiative aims to increase the awareness of young parents and especially young mothers.
Flitscongress European Parliament’s Elections
On the 17th of April a Flitscongress on the European Parliament election on the 4th of June 2009 had been organised by the Nederlandse Vrouwen Raad (NVR). Several Dutch women representatives were given the opportunity to present their issues and discuss them with women candidates for the European elections.
Gender Concerns International at the 53th CSW in New York City
The fifty-third session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) took place at the United Nations headquarters in New York from the 2nd until the 13th of March 2009. Sabra Bano, Director of Gender Concerns International, attended this focal event for women’s rights. Read more
